Yokohama is a Japenese company whose headquarters are in Tokyo.
1917: Yokohama was founded as the result of an agreement between Yokohama Cable Manufacturing and BFGoodrich. The new company was named after the city where it was registered.
1969: Yokohama established offices in the United States.
1986: The D-Parc testing centre was opened.
2005: The ADVAN tyre brand was introduced in the international marketplace.
At the end of March 2009, Yokohama’s annual sales amounted to Yen 517 billion i.e. £3.5 billion. The company is the world’s 7th largest tyre manufacturer.
The company employs 16,722 people across the world (as of March 2009).
In addition to car and 4x4 tyres, Yokohama manufactures truck tyres.
Some 25% of the company’s annual sales come from products other than tyres e.g. golf items, hoses, and pipes…
Competition / sports sponsorship
- Yokohama has been the exclusive supplier and partner of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) since 2005.
- The Yokohama tyre brand is also involved in the Le Mans 24H, the Nurburgring 24H, the American Le Mans Series, and the Super GT Series.
